Healing

My grandfather with his bold and piercing eyes looked at me and said:

“The spirit alone can heal the body.”

I vividly remember when he said this to me  while I laid on the mat, very sick.  The hospital was hours away from the remote village where we lived.  He and my uncle ( an spiritual leader) just performed a ritual to try to save me.  He was not a religious man; in fact, he was what we consider a pagan. While he believed there is a supreme being or god called “maknongan” (a term used to describe this entity by the indigenous people of Ifugao) he knows the spirit can save and heal the body without question.

His statement was a matter of fact.  And because of his belief and conviction, it made me believed it too, which I think caused me to be healed.   The elders were chanting around me through out the night, but I am not sure that was what healed me.

What is healing

Healing the body is not complete without healing the spirit and the mind. This holistic approach has been proven through the ages to be the no.1 cause of bettered condition.

My subsequent studies into the human spirit made me realize this belief is not something new – it is older than the bible.

Words & Decease

Have you ever pretended you were “sick” to get away from doing something – only to actually become sick?

That is the power of the word and thought in full force.

I believe that all sickness and unhappiness are the result of our own thoughts and words. Much has been written about it.

“Continual criticism produces rheumatism, as critical, inharmonious thoughts cause unnatural deposits in the blood, which settle in the joints…. False growths are caused by jealousy, hatred, unforgiveness, fear etc. Every disease is caused by a mind not at ease.”  Florence Scovel Shinn

Words are powerful.   When you continually say you are “depress” or “broke”.  You will find that almost always, you will be depress and broke.   This concept has been drilled to me. So whenever I can’t afford something, I never say I am “broke”,  instead, I say “it’s not in the budget right now”.

I praised my grandmother who was always optimistic.  She never got sick. She lived well into her 90’s.  The only suffering she had experienced were the result of her aging body.
